WISE Employment supports food charity in Hume
WISE Employment recently joined forces with food charity A Gesture to provide job seekers with work experience and training in certificate II in warehousing, licensed fork lift, level II fist aid as well as nutrition and health education. A Gesture work in partnership with SecondBite to source quality surplus fresh food that would otherwise go to waste and re-distribute it to people in need in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.
WISE job seekers sort fresh food provided by SecondBite and other food donors which is then re-distributed to charity food agencies in the local area. WISE Employment provides A Gesture with 20 job seekers every six weeks to take part in the work and training programs.
'WISE Employment is excited to be involved in this innovative new project with SecondBite and A Gesture. Not only does it offer a great service to the community, it also provides our job seekers with invaluable skills training as well as hands on work experience within the warehouse logistics industry," said Sandra Ainsworth, WISE Employment Marketing Manager.
Kevin Hall, Director of A Gesture said that the innovative six week educational program in warehousing has been designed to support the food program and deliver valuable work life experience and skills for our job seekers.
“Our vision is to work closely in collaboration with communities, local government and food charities to support food initiatives and create pathways for job seekers to re-enter the workforce,” said Kevin.
The A Gesture warehouse in Campbellfield will be officially opened by the Mayor of Hume City Council on Monday October 25 2010.
