Driving WISE solutions in Southern Tasmania!

Monday 21st March marked the official launch of WISE Employment’s new community bus!

The 12 seater Hiace bus has been funded through the Cars for Communities program and will provide Tasmanians living in regional areas, with greater access to transport.

Hobart Business Manager, Clive Mosdell says that while job seekers will benefit from the new bus, it will have a hugely positive impact on local employers and the broader community as well.

“Approximately 100 of our clients are living in regional areas in the South and the biggest challenge is the lack of public transport,” explains Mr Mosdell.

“The community bus is going to allow these clients to have access to training and employment opportunities that they just couldn’t get to before.”

“Employers are going to benefit from the bus as well,” explains Mr Mosdell. “We have some employers who desperately need staff, however the lack of public transport has made it very difficult for them to find staff able to travel to their location.”

“We hope to open up some rural sector training opportunities and support our local industries and businesses with quality recruitment solutions.”

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Scott Bacon, handed over the keys to the new Toyota Hiace at the official launch and said the new car provided to WISE Employment would help improve the lives of people with disability.

"WISE Employment is a not-for-profit community service organisation that is committed to supporting disadvantaged members of the community," Mr Bacon said.

"There are many Tasmanians who are unable to participate fully in community life due to a lack of access to transport and the Cars for Community program aims to alleviate this.”

"The Government recognises the important work that WISE Employment does and is proud to support this organisation in its effort to help community members."

The van will also be made available to a number of community organisations, including OAK Tasmania, St Michaels Association Inc, Able Australia and Reclink to improve access to recreational and community activities.
