On Friday December 3, WISE Employment celebrates International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). IDPwD recognises the achievements and contributions of people with disability and aims to bring together people with disability and the general community.
This year’s theme is “Keeping the promise: Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals towards 2015 and beyond”.
WISE Employment’s Disability Employment Service will celebrate the day with a number of events across Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales.
This year WISE Employment is sponsoring the VicNet ‘IT Enables: Life Choice Aspirations’ Expo on Thursday December 2 at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne.
The expo explores ways technology can be used to benefit the lives of people with a disability.
The public are invited to visit Experimedia at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne between 10am and 2.30pm to visit a variety of stalls and an exhibition of technology through time, take part in an interactive story time using Video Relay interpreting (VRI), tour the Assistive Technology room and watch a variety of media clips.
Keynote speakers include Graeme Innes, Disability Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission and Carol Cooke, MS Ambassador.
