Youth Expo in Launceston a huge success!

On Tuesday 22 September, WISE Employment Launceston attended the inaugural Youth Employment Expo at Albert Hall in Launceston.

The expo, which was coordinated by White Lion was a huge success, with over 52 service providers showcasing their services and over 400 people attending.

Other service providers included Apprenticeship Centres, Job Services Australia providers, employers, Government agencies, Tasmania Police, the Navy and the Army.

The expo provided the youth of Launceston with a snapshot of the services available to them post education and also an opportunity to meet employers and gain an understanding of the requirements for entering different industries.

Disability Employment Network (DEN) Program Manager, Deb Quill believed that the event was such a success because the organisers really worked hard to engage with the young attendees.

“There were numerous engaging activities by way of hip hop dance presentations and local school bands and they ran competitions throughout the day to promote the different services available.”

“A highlight of the day was the local ‘coffee tram’ giving on-the-job training to participants who expressed an interest in hospitality.”

Deb also said the expo was a great opportunity for Launceston staff to discuss the DEN program and how WISE Employment can assist people with disabilities, to enter, return or remain in the workforce.
