Calling volunteer mentors for new program for young people with a disability in Launceston
WISE Employment is launching a unique program in Launceston, providing employment, education and training opportunities for young people with a disability.
Many young people with a disability face challenges that make it difficult to find a rewarding job. Some have learning difficulties, eating disorders, mental illness or behavioral problems at school. Others have hearing or sight impairment and other physical barriers to employment.
The WISE Youth Mentoring Employment program offers mentorship and coaching for young job seekers with a disability. The program aims to offer individual support at a personal level through a positive and beneficial relationship with a volunteer mentor.
WISE is seeking volunteer mentors in the Launceston area who have a passion for social justice, are community spirited, enthusiastic and resourceful to work with the WISE Youth Mentoring Employment Program. WISE will provide full training and support to mentors and furthermore there is no cost to get involved.
Providing your services as a mentor sees mentees develop a relationship that encompasses more than the prescriptive supports offered by “office based” programs. The mentorship is managed and directed according to the needs of the client as well as the availability and skills of the mentor. Mentoring can help participants to find sustainable employment by strengthening self-esteem and promoting positive social bonds.
Your contribution as a mentor will not only help these young people but will also impact your life in a positive way. Volunteer mentors in our numerous programs attest to how eye opening, humbling and fulfilling the experience of mentoring is.
