WISE Employment proudly sponsors the Australasian Society for the Study of
Intellectual Disability (ASSID) conference
WISE Employment was proud to sponsor the 44th annual Australasian Society for the Study of Intellectual Disability (ASSID) conference, held in Hobart, Tasmania in November.
The ASSID aims to enhance the quality of life of people with intellectual or developmental disability and promote research and understanding of intellectual disability and high standards of practice in the field of intellectual disability.
The theme of this year’s conference was Power and Passion: Progress through Partnerships and was an opportunity to focus on ensuring that the research undertaken in relation to progressing the understanding of disabilities is properly partnered with the practices put in place to ensure people with an intellectual disability are provided with the most rewarding life experiences available.
Tasmania’s Operations Manager Colleen Hooper took part in the event, which saw over 400 people in attendance.
“We were really pleased to be sponsoring the conference again this year,” said Colleen
“As a disability employment service provider in Hobart, Devonport and Launceston, it’s really important for us to be involved with ASSID in promoting the understanding of intellectual disability.”
“The keynote speakers provided some very valuable insights into partnerships and partnership developments and the workshops explored various aspects of living with an intellectual disability.”
WISE Employment has supported the ASSID conference since 2006 and has successfully raised awareness of its disability employment services.
“It is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of ‘disability employment’ amongst practitioners who share similar goals to improve the quality of life of people with intellectual or developmental disability.”
