PM’s Great Hall hosts Great Employers

On August 9 the Great Hall doors of Parliament House, Canberra, opened to nominees of the Prime Minister’s Employer of the Year Awards.

These Awards recognise excellence in the employment of people with disability.

Standing proud amongst the 450 guests in attendance was WISE Small Employer of the Year Award nominee, Michael Brill, Managing Director of Stronach Timber Industries.

As one of three national finalists, Mr Brill said “it was very nice to be recognised for their contribution” and described the experience as both “thrilling and humbling”. It highlights the fact that “so many people and employers go out of their way to employ people with disabilities” he said.

As a proud employer of people with disabilities since 1999, Mr Brill speaks highly of his partnership with WISE Employment Tasmania and said “it was a very rewarding day, the day we met Peter Hatters from WISE, because he’s been an integral part of our employment strategy”.

With 21 people currently on their payroll, Stronach Industries is an employer that’s most willing to nurture and help people with a disability because in return they get “loyal and productive employees” said Mr Brill.

Asked what life will be like now the awards are over, Mr Brill said “it’s reinforced for us the opportunity to employ people with a disability and we’re looking for opportunities to employ more”.
