WISE Broadmeadows will again join forces with ELC 3047 for the ‘30 in 47 Youth Jobs Front’, an initiative that harnesses networks and existing resources across the 3047 postcode to help address youth unemployment.
WISE staff and other voluntary members of ELC 3047 will call on HUME businesses to take part in the campaign to find jobs for 30 young people in Broadmeadows in the 47 days between October 24 and December 6. In a reference to the Broadmeadows postcode, the ‘30 in 47 Youth Jobs Front’ was run for the first time in 2010.
Last year the campaign boasted job commitments by over 50 local employers, over 100 registrations from young people, and over 25 new registrations at local Employment Service Providers.
Liza Wheeler, ELC member and Referral Officer at WISE Broadmeadows, says that the program was a great success last year and is excited to offer the same opportunity to job seekers in 2011.
“The ‘30 in 47 Youth Jobs Front’ is a great way for us to encourage local employers to support young people in the community, as well as raising awareness about agencies and community groups that provide referrals for young people,” Liza said, “The Committee is great because it is run by volunteers from different community organisations that really care about their neighbourhoods, so we’re able to bring great initiatives like this to fruition and make a difference”.
ELC 3047 is made up of members from most local Employment Service Providers, Centrelink and Hume City Council, and is driven by a commitment to exchange the information and resources necessary to improve local employment and learning infrastructure.
As a unique body, ELC 3047 members put industry competition aside to strengthen employment opportunities across the region. They provide job seeking workshops and ‘vocational taster’ workshops with a spirit of genuine collaboration across agencies and an appreciation of each others’ expertise. The result is a strengthened 3047 agency network.
