Text version of ‘Marion Chapman’ video

Text: Marion Chapman is vision impaired and a former WISE Employment job seeker.

Text: With the assistance of her WISE consultant, Marion found a job at the National Australia Bank (NAB), where she has worked for over 12 months.

Text: How were you looking for work before coming to WISE?

Marion Chapman: I was looking for work on my own, just going through some of the mainstream employment agencies, that I didn't have a lot of success with basically.

Text: How did you find out about WISE?

Marion Chapman: I found out about WISE originally from a friend of mine, and from there I just called and was signed up. It was really quite easy actually, a lot easier than I thought it would be

Text: What makes WISE different from other employment agencies?

Marion Chapman: A lot more specialised. WISE understands my needs specifically and weren't concerned with the fact that I have a vision impairment. With WISE it was "you have a vision impairment, no worries, we can still help you" and you guys did which is fantastic.

Text: How did WISE help you get your job as an Administration Assistant at NAB?

Marion Chapman: Christine Smith attended the interview with me, so she helped me find where I needed to get to for the interviews. Once I actually got the job she assisted me to get all my technology set up so I could do the job and worked with various other agencies to organise funding so that we could purchase whatever was needed.

Text: How has working full-time changed your life?

Marion Chapman: It's given me a purpose, whereas before I started work I went through each day applying for jobs not really feeling like I was achieving anything. The feeling of self-worth is important and that's really helped me feel good about getting up and going to work that I'm actually contributing something and learning at the same time

Text: What advice would you give to other job seekers?

Marion Chapman: I would say stick with it, I would definitely say give WISE a go because they've helped me a lot when I didn't think I was going to find work so don't give up. Keep looking for the resources that are out there and stay positive.

Text: As a result of her employment at NAB, Marion is now going to live out her dream of travelling to America by herself.
