Text version of ‘Scott Pickett’ video

Text: Scott Pickett from The Point employed one of WISE Employment's clients in 2007.

Text: Scott shares his experience working with WISE Employment...

Text: What sort of business is The Point?

Scott Pickett: Here at The Point we've got four different outlets. We've got a restaurant that seats about 100 people. We have two function rooms: the Lake Room and the Promenade Room and they seat up to 180 people sit-down and 400 people for cocktail parties. We have a cafe that operates four or five days a week that's open for breakfast and lunch.

Text: When did you first hear about WISE Employment?

Scott Pickett: I was first contacted by WISE employment two years ago on behalf of one of their clients, Mohan, who now works for us. Mohan has a disability; he's deaf. I think he felt funny about contacting me directly and so through WISE, Moa spoke to Kylie and then she contacted me and we took it from there and gave Moa an interview.

Text: What sort of support was available to you?

Scott Pickett: To assist us in supporting Mohan here on-site. We were offered an interpreter that was here most of the first week that Mohan was here. He was here to train me and my staff with basic signs and communications with Moa. We were also offered anything that we needed on-site, for example, a red flashing light in case of emergency.

Text: Would you suggest other employers consider employing someone with a disability?

Scott Pickett: I'd definitely seriously consider it, especially if you haven't before. I mean two years ago I hadn't, and now I think I've got one of the best employees I've ever had. And if you're not too sure then ask questions and maybe you can find someone right for you, like I have.

Text: What advice would you offer other employers who are looking for staff?

Scott Pickett: I definitely recommend WISE employment if you haven't used a company like that before. Because I think they have a fantastic follow-up service, they can place you with the right client and the right person for your needs.
