In 2000, WISE Employment decided to invest surplus funds into innovative projects and programs that would benefit the most marginalised and under-supported members of our community. With an initial funding allocation of $1.5 million, we set out to identify and review projects that would be of high value to the community.
A lengthy consultation process which included staff, clients and community organisations was undertaken in order to identify priority groups and a number of practical program proposals which would be of greatest benefit to those groups. As a part of this process, a round table brought together leaders from Government, Business, Academic and Community organisations so that strategy could be reviewed and enhanced. The focus groups, visits and literature scan revealed a number of priority areas including:
• Young people
• People with disabilities
• Small business support
• Those in contact with the “justice system”
• Mature age job seekers
