Community Investment Division

In 2001, WISE established the Community Investment Division to develop programs that benefit the most marginalised and undersupported sections of our community. By drawing together the knowledge and resources of a range of stakeholders, WISE Community Investment aims to optimise the quality of research, program development and outcomes for disadvantaged jobseekers.

Project selection criteria

With an initial funding allocation of up to $1.5 million, the division set out to identify and review projects that would be of high value to the community. The selection criteria required that proposals:
• Provided service leadership and innovation, including the formation of a university research partnership
• Were projects not currently eligible for government funding
• Had potential to achieve long-term sustainability through partnership, joint venture, government funding or project generated funds
• Were congruent with economic and social trends
• Related to those communities where WISE currently provides services

Consultation Process

A lengthy consultation process which included staff, clients and community organisations was undertaken in order to identify priority groups and a number of practical program proposals which would be of greatest benefit to those groups. As a part of this process, a round table brought together leaders from Government, Business, Academic and Community organisations so that strategy could be reviewed and enhanced. The focus groups, visits and literature scan revealed a number of priority areas including:
• Mature age job seekers
• Young people
• People with disabilities
• Small business support
• Those in contact with the “justice system”
